EDUCATION AND ACADEMIC CAREER

Eugenio Guglielmelli received the M.Sc.in Electronics Engineering and the PhD in Electronics, Computer Science and Telecommunications from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 1991 and in 1995 respectively. From 1991 to 2004 he was at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa, Italy) where he was (1996 to 1998) Post-doc Fellow in Biomedical Robotics at the Advanced Robotics Technology & Systems Laboratory (ARTS Lab). In 1998, he was Visiting Researcher at the Humanoid Research Institute, Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan.

He was appointed Assistant Professor (1998-2001) and Associate Professor (2001-2004) at the Classe di Scienze Sperimentali (Experimental Sciences Department) of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.

In 2004 he moved  to the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome (Italy), where, since 2010, is Full Professor of Bioengineering.

 

MAIN RESEARCH INTERESTS

Prof. Guglielmelli research interests are in the fields of human-centred robotics, biomechatronic design and biomorphic control of robotic systems, and in their application to rehabilitation, personal assistance and neurorobotics. He is principal investigator\partner of several national, European and international projects in the area of biomedical robotics, rehabilitation engineering and prosthetics.  He has pioneered in Italy and Europe the development of rehabilitation and assistive robotics, of neuro-robotics, and of neurodevelopmental engineering.

 

ACADEMIC AND OTHER DUTIES

2013-current. Pro-Rector for Research of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome. In such role, he supervises the strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation of research activities of more than 400 researchers in two Departments (Medicine and Surgery, Engineering).  He also serves also as Chair of the Academic Scientific Board, as Director of the Center for Integrated Research (CIR) of the same university and as voting member of the Academic Senate and of the Research Management Board.

2004-current. Director and Founder of the Research Unit of Biomedical Robotics and Biomicrosystems of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome. The research group is currently composed of 20+ researchers (2 associate professors, 2 assistant professors, 4 post-doc fellows, 9 PhD students and other post-graduate fellows and research assistants).

2009-2013. Director of Studies at the Department of Engineering of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome. Member of the Executive Board of the Department of Engineering (Giuntà di Facoltà).

2006-2009. Member of the Scientific Management Board of the Center for Integrated Research (CIR) Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome.

2002-2004. Coordinator of the Advanced Robotics Technology & Systems Laboratory (ARTS Lab, a research group of 40+ researchers, 3 MEuro+ yearly research budget). Member of the Scientific Management Board (7 members) of the Polo Sant’Anna Valdera, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (6 research labs, 150+ researchers, 20 Meuro + yearly research budget).

Since 2000, he has been supervisor of 10+ post-doc fellows in biomedical robotics at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and Università Campus Bio-Medico. Since 2004 he serves  as member of the Scientific Board of the PhD Programme in Biomedical Engineering at Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome
